GlossyBox: October 2011 Box

My October 2011 GlossyBox arrived bright and early this morning, but due to having a driving lesson, I was delayed by a couple of hours in opening it (if you are a subscriber, no doubt you will understand how painful it is to have to wait and see what surprises this wonderful box contains!)

This month’s box celebrates two things – firstly, cult brands and products, and secondly the release of the 6th GlossyBox! And in celebration this month’s box includes 6 products instead of the usual 5, as well as a thank you gift.

So without further delay, the contents of my October 2011 GlossyBox:

  • Dermalogica Beauty Bag – To say thank you for all the support, the GlossyBox team have included this as a gift. Its waterproof and compact, and Im sure I will be using it on my travels when you only need compact products on hand.
  • Dermalogica Age Smart Renewal Lip Complex – The bonus 6th product in this months box. A lip treatment to be applied twice a day to restore your lips. My lips are rather dry at the moment due to the change in weather, and after application, my lips do feel more soft and smooth, without any sticky left over residue, as it is more of a cream than a balm or gloss.
  • Leighton Denny Expert Nails in Babydoll – This months first full sized product. I’ve never heard of Leighton Denny, but as the shade is a neutral pink, I will be trying it out.
  • Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner in Moray – This months other full sized product. I tend to stick to using only black eyeliner pencil, and this shade comes across as a grey/olive, with bits of glitter! So in a way this may be stepping out of my comfort zone, but as I’ve always been curious of coloured eyeliner and the application with the smudge stick seems easier, I will certainly be using it!
  • Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Power Recover Masque – I was really hoping that this months box would contain a face mask, and so Im over the moon, that I will be able to trial a product from this cult brand. The masque aims to help skin recover and regenerate, with vitamin’s A,C E & F.
  • Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant – This is described as a powerful skin polisher, with unique thermal technology. Im hoping it will polish my skin and leave it clear and shine free.
  • Robert Piguet Eau de Parfums – My box contains a bag of three sample perfumes from this Parisian designer – Fracas de Robert Piguet, Visa de Robert Piguet and Calypso de Robert Piguet.

Overall, I think its great that this months box contains products from two big brands (Dermalogica and Stila), as they are known for their quality, and personally although I’d heard how amazing they are, I’ve just been too lazy to step out of my comfort zone! Hopefully, if these products work wonders for my skin, then I may purchase them in the future…afterall isn’t that what GlossyBox is all about? I think its also a lovely surprise to have an extra gift and product in this months box, especially since no one expected it! The only thing I am disappointed in is the nail paint and the sample perfumes, I would have perferred some sort of hand cream/treatment instead of the nail paint, and one bigger sample of one perfume. Having said that, I still plan to trial and use them all, so well done to the GlossyBox team for a another lovely box!

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour 475 Dragon

Like most girls, I enjoy painting my nails and adding either a little finish or a little oomph to my style every so often. I’ve never really had the courage to attempt nail art, because I don’t think it’s really ‘me’, so I tend to stick with classic shades, and when it comes to a classic, every girl needs a red!

No matter what I always have red on my toes, and early on this year I felt a bit bored with the usual high-street brands (and let down in quality) and decided to venture out into the Chanel teritory. I’ve been a fan of Chanel cosmetics for a while now, but I had never really looked at the nail paints. Shocking I know, especially considering every time a new shade is released it instantly sells out and has its own waiting list! So off I went in search of my perfect red – something not too bright, but still shocking. Wearable on both my fingers & toes…..

….and this is what I found:

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in 475 Dragon. For years I had heard how amazing Chanel nail paints were, not just because of the colours and waiting lists mentioned above, but because of the actual application and consistency of the paint. I have to say this is probably the most easiest nail paint I have ever applied! I’ve never found it easy doing my own nails, but I do believe that to some extent it does come down to the quality and consistency of the paint itself. Don’t get me wrong, there are some more value priced brands out there, that will do the job just as well, but Chanel nail paints are definitely worth every penny, especially when it comes to a classic shade that you knew you will apply time and time again.

GlossyBox: September 2011 Box

I first wrote about GlossyBox here, but due to my magical lazy vanishing act from my blog, I ermm unfortunately failed to follow up on what I received in the previous months. I won’t go into what I received previously but I will share with you what arrived today so…

There has been a bit of an uproar (if thats what you can even call it) over what is classed as a high-end luxury product, the sizes of the product, and the price of the box itself amongst other things. However, personally I think for the price, service and variety of products, GlossyBox are doing very well. I’ve been happy with all the boxes so far, and I’ve actually used all the products sent to me (apart from one pack of nail wraps, but I’d rather ignore that at the moment), and this months box is certainly a keeper!

The theme of this months box is ‘5 Future Classics’, all products come with a discount code. My box for September contains: (note – I say ‘My’ because not all the boxes are the same)

  • Neal and Wolf Harmony Intensive Care Treatment – This is a 200ml full size product. I’ve never heard of the brand, but the product claims to repair damaged hair, leaving it shiny, healthy and manageable. It also smells great, so Im looking forward to trying this one.
  • Dead Sea Spa Magik Salt Brushing – My box contains two sachets of this product which has been voted best exfoliator by You Magazine. I’ve seen the products of this brand whilst out and about, and have always wanted to try them.
  • Kimia Exquisite Rejuvenating Facial System – This sample comes in two parts, a natural face oil and a hydra-activator. Its not from a brand that I’ve heard of before but aims to combat signs of ageing and leave you with ‘The Kimia Glow’. From what I understand so far, it can be used before applying make-up as well as a night treatment. As Im currently all set for the foundation to my makeup, I think I will be testing it as a night treatment.
  • HD Brows Eye & Brow Palette – The second full size product of the box. The blog world, beauty industry and generally most beauty buffs, seem to be going crazy about this product. As my brows are craving for some TLC, I can not wait to try this out.
  • Plum by Mary Greenwell Eau de Parfum – A sample of Plum, which is the signature fragrance by world-renowned celebrity makeup artist Mary Greenwell. At first its seem quite a strong and mature fragrance, however I do wonder if will sweeten once settled for a while.

If you’re a GlossyBox subscriber, do let me know what you got in your box!

The Body Shop, a bag full of goodies!

In my humble opinion, not enough gets written about products from The Body Shop online. Every so often, the body butter, lip butter or a new shower gel gets a mention in print media, but to some extent everyone is so busy chasing new brands and products, that The Body Shop doesn’t seem to get a word in!

Anyone who knows me well, is aware of the big fruit bursting fact that I adore The Body Shop and it’s products. Its a brand and store that i’ve been aware of since I was a child, so you could say their is a certain comfort zone. I’ve been a loyal customer of The Body Shop for around eight years now, and I use their skincare, haircare, bath and body products, with the occasional cosmetic.

As well as having a fab range of natural based products, they also offer very good discounts (Love Your Body card anyone?), so during my wonderings today I made it a point to make a stop at my local branch. Here’s what I came back with:

  • Body Butter Duo Floral Acai (200ml) – Those of you who are familiar with The Body Shop’s Body Butter’s will instantly notice, that this is infact a new product! The Sales Assistant was unboxing them, just as I walked in, so I’m not sure if they are available everywhere yet, but should be by the end of the month. The Body Butter Duo takes the standard body butter pot and divides it into two; one part containing a light cream to use all over, and a rich cream to use on dry areas such as knees and elbows. I purchased two in Floral Acai, firstly because I love the smell and secondly because apparently Acai is supposed to be anti-aging. I haven’t tried the product yet, but plan to do a review soon.
  • Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment (30ml) – I only recently started using this night treatment, after discovering my skin was becoming more ‘combination’ than normal, and so I recommend this if your skin is prone to blemishes but with the odd dry patch and oily t-zone.
  • Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream (50ml) – I haven’t tried too many hand creams, but I find this one is fabulous for not being too rich, and so it doesn’t leave you with that greasy feel. Part of your purchase is also donated to ECPAT UK, who are working towards preventing trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
  • Cottonseed Curl Boost (150ml) – At some point I plan to do a post on caring for curly hair, but for now, this product is amazing if you need to bring your curls back to life!
  • Seaweed Cleansing Facial Wash (100ml) – Another product that I recently switched to, and I do find that it does help to clear up any blemishes, prevents spots and keeps my combination skin more balanced.
  • Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Facial Exfoliator (75ml) – A new product for me! I’ve previously been using the exfoliator from the Tea Tree range, so i’ll have to get back to you on this one.

If you’re reading this blog post, its most likely because you have been researching ‘GlossyBox’, and not because you are a reader of my blog, considering this is only my second post, and I probably don’t actually have any readers yet (she types with a little hope.)

Therefore I won’t be apologising for throwing out another post on ‘GlossyBox’ into the blogosphere, because its basically a fantastic idea. For those of you who have somehow not seen the tweets and blog posts floating around for the past few weeks, ‘GlossyBox’ is a recently set up company who for £10 per month, will send out to subscribers a box of five high-end luxury beauty products. The products will be travel size (sometimes full size), and will be a mixture of beauty cosmetics, haircare and skincare products. The £10 covers the cost of all 5 products, and delivery to your door in I must say very pretty packaging.

I sadly missed out on the first box which was sent out this month (May 2011), as I only discovered the service last week. I have however signed up and can not wait to receive June’s box of goodies! This months box contained:

  • All for Eve Lipstick – in red, full size (rrp £10.50)
  • Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Rapid Repair Spray
  • Bionova Bioactive Cleanser
  • Como Shambhala Invigorate Body Lotion
  • NARS Orgasm Illuminator – full size (rrp £21.50)

The beauty buffs amongst you will instantly spot, that two of the above mentioned products are infact full sized and it doesn’t take a genius to work out that if GlossyBox continue to include products such as the above all for £10 per month, we are seriously onto a winner! Apart from getting to test out the lastest luxury beauty products in the comfort of our own homes, Im rather excited about receiving such a pretty surprise through the post every month (simple I know I know.)

Some people have raised concerns over whether the products will suit them and their skin, and so upon subscribing, GlossyBox request you to complete a beauty profile to help them to tailor your box to your needs. In addition to this, upon receiving the box and testing the products, if you complete a review for them, you can collect ‘GlossyDots’ which can go towards rewards and the cost of your next box!

For the present moment, I absolutely love the idea, as I’m not usually open to trying out new products. However, in the long-term the brands and quality of products involved will be a factor, but for now I look forward to receiving my ‘GlossyBox’ next month!
